DPB with VINTAGE Lightener & VINTAGE toner.
by sls » 27 Nov 2008 06:47 am
Ok, so the cut and style isn't vintage, BUT I felt I could contribute to the vintage portion of the forum by the lightener and choice of toner I used (at least one of the toners!)
I can't cut my manni right now as I need her for a DP class I'll be teaching. This Baby was TOUGH to lighten and tone. The hair was a level four (asian), and incredibly tenacious.
I took my time because I wanted the hair in optimum condition for the upcoming class.
The initial lightening was Roux Sheer Delight Cream Oil Bleach/ 20volume cream developer and two lightening packets. Processed for 90 minutes, which brought the manni's hair to a very gold stage. (There are only 3 stages when decolorizing the hair for blonding...thats gold/yellow and pale yellow (sometimes a 4th, which I like to refer as palest yellow just shy of white).
I reconditioned the manni with ceramides, Logics DNA and went this time for the grand old Roux White...this product has been around since the 1950's.
I processed for sixty minutes. The hair felt really good. We got to the yellow stage...FINALLY. I toned with Clairol's Cream Toner 311 Towhead. Towhead was actually one of the first colors Clairol ever produced. I also did heavy slices in the frontal and top area of the manni with Logics Imprints 10V sheer 1/2 and clear 1/2 and ten volume.
Just to break up the color a bit and produce a blended blonde on blonde look. My manni got the full Logics DNA treatment with styling and finishing. And VOILA...a beautiful soft shimmery blonde on level FOUR asian hair...!
Sometimes, the products that have been around for DECADES are still the best...they are time honored and trusted...and you can't go wrong with Clairol Cream Toners, Born Blonde and I even LOVE the Wella Toners. My Light Reactions by Logics can't be beat, but some old school yet truly wonderful bleaches are Wellite Cream Oil Bleach, Born Blonde, Sheer Delight and 7th Stage.
In that order. Use anyone of these products in your on-scalp lightening arsenal and you won't ever fail!

Whoa! Those images turned out really dark and weird looking...the manni looks like she was in a tanning bed for a year and the hair looks dark and warm! Photobucket was screwing with my pics...LOL lets try this again! Something must have happened in the transfer from photobucket in Explorer over here at HDW with me on Firefox..I dunno..Chris do me a favor and take these off...I'll repost from my laptop! Sorry! lol

Hi Shawn.
I edited the post to include the pictures as attachments instead of images at photobucket.
If you look just underneath the submit button when posting, you will see the "upload attachment" area. You can simply browse your files and upload, just like photobucket. It is more reliable than using img tags in the post.
So, back to the work you did.
I would have loved to have seen a few pics of the inbetween stages and undercoats, but I guess maybe on the next one?
I have always found that colouring a mannequins hair can be very difficult, and that the results are not guaranteed, if even achievable, so I am double impressed that you were able to do this. Is it a special mannequin head for colouring?
Your comments about using oil bleach took me right back to when we used to use it, and play jokes on new assistants by getting them to smell it!
I love that you got such an even blonde on the hair, and retained the shine as well.
Thanks for posting it.

Thanks Karla..now if I can just get the images to really show up right. I know I can upload files from here...but my files are too big for the forum, so its easier for me to take them to photobucket, re-size them, but yet still save my original size, but the colors go off for some weird reason!.

Thank you Xoxo! The haircut isn't terribly difficult to execute, although it does require time. There is assymetry and a bit of disconnection to it, but no big deal. I'll try and find a blank headsheet and get it posted for you! Again, thanks for the "Bloody Hell" compliment. I'll post more pics of the cut as soon as I can resize my huge images and retain the true color of the DP.

I find it amazing you got that manni head to such a nice DP. I did see the pics you sent in photobucket and the color was more true. I love that cut also.
I don't have any head sheets. I thought there was a site you can download them, but I can't remember, I searched with no avail.

That would be here SYL! LOL.
I will have to find out where I put them and let you know!
Looking forward to the head pic diagrams for the cut Shawn.
P.S. Did the picture shrinking software help you at all?
