Placing a roller in the hair

Placing a roller in the hair

Method of placing a roller in the hair
1 Divide off a section of hair the same size as the roller. This should be the same length and the same width as the roller.
2 Comb the hair thoroughly from the roots through to the points at a right or obtuse angle from the scalp,
3 Place the points of the hair in the centre of the roller, making sure that the tension is even on either side of the section. Then turn the roller, using the thumbs to hold the points in position until they are locked round the roller.
4 Wind the hair and roller evenly down to the scalp. The wound roller should be in the centre of the section when wound.

Note the position of the securing pin. It should hold the roller firmly in position without marking the hair and it should never be secured in such a way as to mark the client's scalp or cause discomiort.
Once the skill of correctly placing a roller in the hair has been mastered, it is possible to experiment with different roller positions to create different effects. Combing the wet hair into the direction of the finished style before setting, then placing the rollers in the required direction leads to more interesting styling and also produces a more durable hairstyle for the client.
