The Book that we are all talking about

I thought that i would list the rules of salon design and layout according to Peter Millard. He has designed for Chanel and Ralf Lauren.
Rule 1 When you put a product line out, your goal is not to display but to explain. Essentially use shelf talkers to tell the client about the products on your shelves. remember we read from left to right, so start with you best selling products and use multiply facings.
Rule 2 Customers are attracted to beautiful people - use images. Make an effort to use framed images of people who have hair like the cleint can expect from using the product the pic is promoting
Rule 3 Dont spread out. Gabs tell the client that you are not committed to what you sell and looks like you are selling out. Fill your shelves. If you dont want to stock lots of retail, have less shelves.
Rule 4 Never use mirrors behind the retail. No one wants to have themselves look back at them from behind the shampoo bottles. besides the products look liek they are dangling in mid air.
Rule 5 Put your best sellers at eye level. 50% of sales accure at eye level and 15% above or below eye level. thats 80% of sales at these 3 levels.
Rule 6 Put only your winners at eye level. this will change so keep an eye on yoru sales figures and move the stock around.
Rule 7 Men. Simply separate any retail that you have specifically for men. Display it away from the rest, if you cant give it shelves by it self and have male images so there is no confusion who the product is for.
Rule 8 Selling retail. This is something that normally happens at the styling station so the way you display retail is up to you, but be sure to follow rule 3. And possibly group the product according to hold.
Rule 9 become the hair clinic. Put products that \"heel sick hair\" and solve problems through out the salon and work stations, basically anywhere that the client sits or passes while in the salon.
There you have the first instalment of \"the Book\" simple common sense stuff that will help you sell more retail.. Some that can make a lot of money for the salon and something that is usually not a real focus for most of us.
