5 Steps to Power Productive Meetings!
Do you feel like your meetings are a waste of time? Does your staff avoid them like a bad case of the flu? Are you lost in your purpose or directions and find it hard to create stimulating results oriented meetings?
If you answer yes to at least one of these questions, these steps will help you have meetings that make a difference not only for the people who attend but also to your financial freedom!

Let’s suppose for a meeting that you need a new flipchart, expensive models and a new color line for your salon --- a significant expense. In your salon, you wouldn’t need to get the approval of anyone or even consider the matter carefully --- you’d just run right out and buy what you needed right? Wrong. You need to think hard before you spend serious money!

Except when it comes to spending it on meetings, some salons call a meeting on a moments notice and drag them on for hours, wasting valuable time and staff! Often not even considering how much it COSTS or how expensive meetings really are! And meetings can be a very expensive investment!

TIP 1
Consider:
Each person is a money producer, if they aren’t working there is no revenue gained!

• Future Cost: This means unless the meeting is powerful productive and extremely good, time and productivity are lost!
Consider that poorly run or unnecessary meetings damage morale!

Tip 2
Create a purpose and intention!
Before you resort to a meeting consider what is the outcome for each team member, what do you want to accomplish?

One on one can be extremely effective and more beneficial with less time! Consider that some salon issue are being aired as a group and it is really directed to one or two individuals but our fear of upsetting people will have us not address individuals.

Good meetings create synergy; they’re healthy for the salon and they create team and motivation. Experiment with different forms of communication, it is important to realize that the functions of meetings are communication and breakdown.
Allow your team to say what they need to say with out you getting emotional upset. The reality it is your business and you can do what you want to in the end, your team is just giving you impute! Take it as that, just impute.
If your not effective at any kind of meeting try a graffiti sheet and have team members express ideas and impute! Put up a large sheet of butcher paper in the backroom and label it something creative, wishes and dreams have each person write what they want.

Tip 3
Agendas

Each meeting should allow the participants know before hand the following:
• Purpose of the meeting
• The agenda and outline
• What information YOU need from them! (Yes they can bring information to the meeting)
• What they can do to prepare and what they need to bring to the meeting
• What is the start time and end time (really)

Following this format will ensure participation and preparation! Everyone in the meeting is responsible for the success of the meeting! Make your meetings successful – know the agenda, and be prepared BEFORE you walk in!

Tip 4
Take Minutes
In big business, minutes are taken in every meeting meaning “notes” of each person’s contributions ideas and commitments to the meeting. To ensure the success of your meeting it is important that we remember what we said we were creating! Have you ever had the experience of not even remember the next week what you said you would do in the meetings?
How do you take minutes? Easy, try this technique to get everyone involved! It is simple as the team selecting information you’ll need; label a flipchart pages with the categories or subjects that your discussing for example; Cleaning, Education,Remodeling,Advertising, Time off etc. Then ask a team member to record the information on the flipchart, in front of everyone. This helps in being concise, accurate, focused, improve understanding and quick accountability!

Tip 5
Understanding the Power of Leader!

Remember Giligan on television show Giligans Island? He was the first mate of the boat in theory the first mate is a person of prestige; he is the assistant to the Captain. But was Giligan powerful? NO! He was silly, considered stupid and was the butt of every joke and mishap on the show! Even though he was in a leadership position leadership wasn’t respected! Real leadership is earned not ordained! What are the actions of a leader in a meeting?

• Ask questions early don’t step over anything
• Make short, frequent contributions to the discussions
• Give informed, objective views!
• Exhibit powerful NON verbal communication

Remember this is your teams time and money too! Appreciate the commitment they have made to the salon or spa by being at the meeting! We can do more by working together and delegating responsibilities and task! Each person is at this salon because of YOU, and your leadership, be responsible for the impact you’re making on his or her lives.
You need to learn the rules before you can break them
