How to achieve great salon management

Postby My Salon Marketer » 28 Jan 2012 07:37 pm

All the salon marketing in the world is useless unless your salon team is equipped to handle the influx of new clients your promotional activity provides. As the salon business owner it’s your job to create a winning side, a team that will build clients and make money.
If there is weakness, there must be training and evaluation. Failure to look at your salon team honestly will only cost You money in the long term.
I’ve known salon owners that ‘overlook’ a person’s short comings because they like them!

Business Strategy

A great leader knows that a business development strategy is essential to future salon business growth and the great leader knows that this can only be achieved with the full support of a hard working knowledgeable salon team.
What makes a good salon team great often has little to do with creative or technical ability.
Sure your team needs to have good creative skills but this will only make them good at what they do.
The great salon leader facilitates the team's ability to be good at it with more clients, more of the time to make more profit.
So a great salon team is measured against the profit it makes not how creative it can be. Fantastic salon business results will only be achieved when all salon rules are understood and practiced by all salon staff, all of the time:

These ‘rules’ should be:

1. Client Attraction
2. Client Satisfaction
3. Client Retention
4. Client Loyalty
5. Client Referrals

Salon/spa management must measure profit-per-employee and act upon the results of this measurement if they are to create increasing profitable revenue. This will only be achieved if the salon operates a viable staff performance plan designed to increase client numbers, productivity and retention.

What is your staff performance plan?
How do you monitor it and do your staff really pay attention to it?

Think about this for a moment..

A 2% increase in client retention has the same effect on profits as cutting costs by 10%!

A 5% reduction in client defection rate can increase profits by 25-125%!

When you put client retention into the above context it becomes the salon owners No1 Priority.

Some salon professionals take clients for granted and do not look for opportunities to increase revenue from their existing clients or to ensure client loyalty which leads to life-long retention.
If you don’t already have a system in place to monitor client retention, I recommend you start today !
