General Hair Colouring Questions
and Techniques

Hi

Just a slight dilema I'm having, done my client's hair on Saturday and I used the colours I normally use (which is L'Oreal Majirel). I pre colour the roots with 7 as she is so white and then colour it with 1/2 7 & 1/2 8. We have both noticed that this time the colour has gone pinky on the roots! (and before you ask I didn't use any different colours to what I normally do :)) so I re applied a different tube of 7 all over which seems to have toned it down, but the pink tones a still a little visible, is there anything I can do to be rid of these pink tones once and for all???

I have thought about putting a pure ash on the roots, do you think this would get rid of the pink tones?? or would pre colouring the hair again do the trick??

Help!!!

What color is the opposite of the Red on your color wheel?
You need to learn the rules before you can break them

Only just read about your 'pink' problem. I was at L'Oreal when they launched Majirel 30 years ago and I have used it ever since.
Just a couple of pointers:
1. no need to pre-color - if the hair is very white/resistant pre soften with liquid 20vol.peroxide applied to root area only, dry off then apply tint as normal.
2.Use L'Oreal's Supreme which is specifically for hair over 80% white.
For either tint make sure you stick to 20 vol.
3. There could be a residue of a product on the hair which the client is using herself at home. This is then taken into the hair when you tint it. Try shampooing the hair before you apply the tint - dry off roughly - or remove the pink tone with a cleanser of mid bleach/shampoo mix.
4. don't apply an ash - the hair will grab and may throw up mauve or grey.
Good luck !
P.S. May sure brushes are really clean !

I just read your post...
I have long time to use majirel.... But when you are used to do a certain color and change nothing in the procedure this means that the product has changed something within.... So, yes, you correct the color you don't want either with the opposite (which is best in this level)or with bleach cleaning (if you had to do with blond).
STILL i personally would ask the technician why this happened in a routine color apply??? Either we work with a product we know or we don't!
