Thing I wish I had known before I became a Hairdre
by Sparklehair 2 Years ago
Things I wish I had been told; How addictive this job is. That it is really hard work. That it takes time and patience. That I would travel all over the world with my job. That I would make someones day, every day. That I am happiest when I look at what I have achieved. That we are more than 'just' a hairdresser, we are intelligent, intuitive, smart people. sparks.
Sparks.

I would add...that # I never knew I would be saving peoples marriages
# I never knew I would stop so many middle aged women leaving their husband and kids for a toy-boy # I never knew I'd become "adopted uncle" to loads of my client's kids
and # I never knew I would always have a young outlook on life through the young people I work with yet have wisdom beyond my years because of the older ones
Jeez, it's a funny old job isn't it?

I need to add:
I wish I knew that after doing hair for 20 years tht my back going to go to hell. I would have taken better care of it.
I wish I knew that I would have clientele that became family, watching "the babies" have babies.
I really wish I knewthat I would be doing thier hair for their funeral service "because nobody can get it right like you do"
Feelin Old here

lol Hi Chris
Not cutting but curling their hair. Yep they are laid out flat on their backs so it is really easy. Just have to do it around the face.
It isn't easy. Too many of my tears get in the way at times. But it is those weekly senior citizen clients who have came to you for ten years. Every week sitting in your chair at their appointed time that you can share your trials and tribluations with. The ones who do not judge you for the mistakes you made in your life. They have been there. They have walked the walk. They are the ones that become closer to you than your own parents. You become one of their children. You know all about their children, grandchildren too. These are the ones who I go to the funeral home for and take a few minutes of my time to make sure they have their hair done like they want it.
It ain't easy my friend, but nothing in life is.
