| Color Chart or Picture |

I have been confronted by variouse people about the fact that I use the Color Chart and not a picture when doing my consultations with clients on color. Redken even tought us to rather use pictures than the chart because of the confusion caused by the chart. The reason for my choice is to show the client how the color would affect her skin tone and to see, when you are doing foils, how the color would blend with her hair onces you have finished the foils. A Salon owner from South Africa, Gary Rom, introduced to us a way how one can get around the skin tone effect. A gold piece of material placed around the shoulders would complament a warm skin tone, and a silver piece complaments a cool skin tone. I only used this once and still did not like the idea of not seeing what the chosen color would do to the clients skin tone. The colors on the chart, be it warm or cool, held against the clients skin would still give you and the client a better indication of what you can expect Obviously the colors on the chart does not come out as what it appears on the chart because of the underlying tone of the natural color or the color that was done prior to this service. It is only an indication of what is possible and I tell my clients that the color would not come out exactaly like that. Just like when you are useing a picture. One can never say that the color you are about to apply to the hair would look like the color on that picture. Yes, you can predict what the effect would be when you are doing a base color with foils within that, but still you could get a better idea of what the client expect the color to look like when you use a color chart. Everyone see color different. On a color chart, color appears brighter than on a picture. If you show a client the color red, i.e, you can both see red. Not purple, not chestnut, but red. When you look at a picture, or even at another persons color it is a whole different story. You would see gold hi-lights, another could see brassi hi-lights which cause confusion. That is exactaly the reason why I find using a color chart better than using a picture. A picture I will use when I want to explain the effect I want to achieve.
